Sabbatical Homes Founder Nadege Conger recently visited London to meet up with two members whose stay together has become one of the site’s happier matches. Faith owns a unique boat home on the water, and Andrew, a writer, has rented it from her for a three month stay.
For Faith, the appeal of renting through the site came down to trust. Andrew gave her all the information she needed before he arrived, paid promptly, and turned out to be exactly the kind of tenant she was hoping for. As she put it, she does not think she could have found someone this reliable through any other channel.
For Andrew, the boat home turned out to be close to ideal. He was drawn to it for its peace and quiet, which suited what he came to London to do: write. He also appreciated knowing that Faith, as his landlord, was dependable and easy to deal with, even though the two keep a respectful distance day to day. Faith has been accommodating when he has wanted to use the boat, but otherwise the setup gives him the private, undisturbed environment a writer’s retreat calls for.
