Los Angeles, CA (August 2015) – SabbaticalHomes.com, an online listing service for scholars needing to find or offer temporary accommodations, is proud to announce Samantha Gambling as recipient of their inaugural Scholarship Opportunity. Nadege Conger, Sabbatical Homes’ founder, was inspired by the universal reach of her research. “We hope this scholarship opportunity helps Samantha affect change in striving for environmentally sustainable, socially just, and economically viable global food systems.”
Samantha Gambling, a graduate student of Land and Food Systems at the University of British Columbia, is traveling to Dunedin, New Zealand, where she will be hosted by the Centre for Sustainability at the University of Otago (CSAFE). During her time there, she will be supplementing her Master’s research on supply management and food sovereignty in the British Columbia dairy industry.
“I’m overwhelmed by the number of impressive applications we received and the important research that is fueled by these young scholars. I want to see them succeed and find the housing they need to conduct their research,” says Conger. To that effect, many young scholars are now discovering that they can afford to travel too by using the website.
Sabbatical Homes is committed to helping the next generation of scholars. Graduate students are encouraged to create free “Tenant Listings” indicating the places they would like to visit to further their research. Academic homeowners search the “Tenant Listings” for suitable scholars with whom to share their space. Connections across the globe within similar disciplines are commonplace on the site.
It is also possible for students to list their own spaces as “Home Offered.” Many students are looking for affordable peer-to-peer exchanges, rentals, or shares in similar spaces within the rhythm of the academic calendar.
SabbaticalHomes.com is pleased to announce that the Educational Travel Scholarship Opportunity will be made available again for the summer of 2017. Please check blog.sabbaticalhomes.com for further details as they are released.
